2019 Free Career Seminar Tour: The Testimony

2019 Free Career Seminar in Abuja: The Appeal

Hi all :)

It's been nearly two years since I last posted on this blog (hides face 🙈). The prospect of me losing it jerked me out of my complacency. One of the things that happened in between was the founding of my businesses, LiLyVille Enterprises and LiLyVille Educational Consultancy  (LEC). You can visit LiLyVille.biz to read more about them. I made an appeal on Facebook on 16th August 2019 as I wanted to host an event in Abuja. I literally copied  and pasted what I wrote therein as you'll read below:

I'm Lydia, a lecturer in Biomedical Engineering and Founder, LiLyVille Educational Consultancy (LEC). You can find out a bit about me professionally on LinkedIn.com/in/lydiajilantikiri and lightheartedly on ndagilaya.com. I want to organise a FREE CAREER SEMINAR for young people (especially teenagers but other ages are welcome to attend) and their parents in Abuja early September 2019 by God’s Grace and I need your help to make it happen via partnerships/sponsorships with the following please:

1. Venue: Indoor furnished with chairs and audiovisual equipment like microphones, projector and screens etc.
2. Publicity: E-flyers, hard copy flyers, sponsored posts, radio jingles, TV adverts, posters and letters to organisations supporting causes like these.
3. Hotel accommodation: The need for this is dependent on guest speakers other than me if such is the case who aren't resident in Abuja.
4. A DJ and an MC.
5. Photography and Videography.
6. Volunteers - Ushers to handle registration, seating arrangements and other duties.
7. Miscellaneous- Decor, Banner, gifts for volunteers and speakers e.t.c.
Some background (quite a read but I assure you, it’s worth it 😁):

I’m someone who is passionate about working with young people and came to notice this since I was a teenager. As I grew, I realised I naturally flowed with young people and ‘somehow’, our conversations inevitably linked with some career talk. I have this tendency to always question their aspirations and reasons for their prospective career paths and many times, offer 'unsolicited' advice lol. One thing I've noticed over the years though, that is the primary reason for youngsters choosing a certain career path is FASCINATION! This is not bad in itself because we all had some trigger and this could well be other people's. However, I believe fascination solely isn't a strong foundation to build a career - something of such magnitude that would take a considerable chunk of our lives in time and energy deserves more. This is why I want to host this seminar, to help provide guidance.

This passion ‘burned’ in me over the years that in October 2017 on a flight back to base after a much-needed break, I was reading a book and really got a flood of inspiration, so borrowed a pen from the woman next to me and scribbled in the book I was reading (please always carry along something you can write and/or record ideas on as you don't determine when inspiration might drop). The summary is that I wrote letters to four secondary schools, requesting an hour to hold a career seminar at their schools titled "Choosing a Career and Mapping your Career Path", with the aim to hold it before December 2017. Three schools responded positively and the seminar held at two. The principal of the first school told me that was the best Career seminar he had attended, whilst the guidance counsellor of the second school really appreciated my session and invited me back some months later for their career day; I give God all the glory! 🙌🙌🎉
In 2018, it was like the floodgates opened and I got invitations to speak at primary and secondary schools, and University fellowships and associations on topics ranging from Career to Academics. I also assumed duty as Technical Secretary of my Chapter’s Professional Women Engineers Association and we went on career outreaches to various secondary schools (please see attached photos). In July, I hosted a paid WhatsApp seminar under LEC themed “Being the Informed Graduate” and the feedback was amazing.
I'm putting this up because I've been inspired to hold one in Abuja (and I don’t live there). My Aunty recently came down with my younger cousin from Abuja for an exam and was literally, talking to her neighbour on the phone on the need for parents to know more about the variety of University courses being offered, Jamb subject combination etc literally when just earlier, I thought about hosting this event in Abuja; I took this as a sign. It’s been more than three weeks since I’ve been brewing this and decided to throw it in the open.
I’m an individual who aspires to be thorough and deliver excellently in all that I do. I guarantee you by God’s Grace that after the seminar, you’ll realise that if i had charged, you’d have been willing to pay at least 5000 naira for the event. I’m not after the money (although it helps 😜 and i offer fairly priced paid services too), I’m after impacting lives by contributing a solution to a problem I have identified. I hope you find this cause worthy and share with relevant individuals or companies and let’s help guide our youngsters. Suggestions are welcome please.

Many thanks for reading my Epistle 😁😘. Happy Sharing and helping out 😁

2019 Free Career Seminar Tour: The Testimony

Hello again 😁 Yesterday, I posted on here about the appeal I made for help last August, with hosting a FREE CAREER SEMINAR in Abuja. Well, I also posted the testimony from the FREE CAREER SEMINAR that ended up being a tour across Abuja, and in Nasarawa and Kaduna States. I literally posted the ensuing on Facebook too on 24th October 2019: When I started getting inspirational signals about hosting a Free Career Seminar in Abuja, I thought it'd be a one-day event where parents & students would attend & started making preparations. Well, Abuja isn't exactly cheap & I didn't have sponsors, just a donation (thanks so much Pat  😘 ).  I went to God about strategy & He led me to employ a similar strategy I've used in Ilorin: hold the seminars at various schools, like a tour. That way, venue is free and logistics are a lot easier to handle.  Sis Faith offered to help out and she was able to secure some schools in Nasarawa (thank you  😘 ). So, arrive
